I always looking for ways to improve myself in my daily life. I usually read books or videos on Youtube and one thing that got mentioned alot is morning routine and the idea of if you starting your day right, the whole day will go right.
The general idea of morning routine is to wake up early (5-6am) in the morning, make your bed, journal, meditate, excercise, take a shower, read a book, have a healthy breakfast and then start your productive day. That sounds all well and good but when I started implement it, the plan usually goes like so:
I wake up around 7:30sm or 8am.
Lay in bed or snooze for like 15 to 30 mins.
Actually get up, sit on my chair and check on social for another 15 mins before feeding my cats.
Open up freeletics and gather my willpower to actually start excercising
Take longer rest time between workout by changing music, answering text or browse through instagram
finished the excercise in around 9 30 or 10am and then start having breakfast and prepare for lunch
So usually my working day would start at around 11am if I’m lucky or nothing comes into my morning routine like replying to clients or fixing bugs. I don’t even have time to consider meditation, jounrnaling and reading.
The result is I do feel good throughout the day and my physical wellbeing is improved but there’s a catch:
- What if I have an early meeting?
- What if I haven’t prepared meals the night before?
- What if something emergency comes up or client-related
I tried to maintain my morning routine as best that I could like wake up -> make the bed and do a quick excersise, breakfast and start working and found myself pretty distracted and drowsy while doing so
That’s when I encounter this video by Ryan Doris:
Where Ryan shares that he start working right before getting out of bed! It sounds pretty crazy but I have tried it these past couple of days, I use Alarmy Pro version where they have label reading features, I name an easy task that I currently working on such as (setting global styles for the website or finishing the wireframe) and then I just got up and start working.
I find that I have an easier time focusing and getting into flow state, by starting work early, I feel better for getting work done early and a sense of accomplishment, something that i can see compared to my physical health is a bit improve.
After spending 30mins on work, I find myself more focused and can start working out if I’d like then shower then breakfast then more work (don’t worry, I’d still feed my cats before heading out)
Like I said, I only tried this for a couple days but so far it’s been working great, you can check the video yourself, and see if it works for you.
Everyone is different and the work-life schedule is different so you don’t have to impose yourself to other successful people routine.
Experiment and adjust and see what works best for you!
