The Wim Hof Breathing Method

Date posted: July 27, 2025

One of my coaches, who is also a friend of mine, recently mentioned the Wim Hof breathing method to me. When my eyes landed on Jay Shetty’s podcast interview with Wim Hof and his breathing exercise, I had to check it out. Wim Hof claims that the breathing method he has popularized has proven beneficial for mental health, helps clean out the nervous system, releases toxins, and supports the immune system, along with other health benefits. The Wim Hof Breathing Method continues to be studied scientifically and practiced across the world in various industries.

He advises practicing breathing at the start of the day when you wake up, on an empty stomach, and suggests that after just seven days, you will see the benefits. Wim Hof also mentioned cold showers and cold plunges to improve discipline and help realize your hidden potential, besides other health benefit of course. All this sounds too good to be true, and I appreciate the sentiment of him wanting to make the world a better place with a method so simple and rudimentary that it’s accessible to everyone, regardless of their walk of life—whether young or old, a school student or a CEO.

The idea of your breath follows you for all your life resonates with me, you can change friends, countries, jobs, when you are happy or sad, your breath stays with you and follows you from the moment you are born to the day you pass away.

I will check out the breathing exercise first thing tomorrow. Here’s the video of a guided breathing session I found from the official Wim Hof YouTube channel:
