Back Take to RNC (Rear Naked Choke)
When you have taken the back and secured the seatbelt grip, the next submission to consider is the RNC. Use your underhook arm to control their same-side arm, gripping the side of their pinky finger without using your thumb. Bring your body to that side to limit their arm mobility. From there, it should be easier to slide your arm under their neck to execute the RNC.
What If They Have a 2-on-1 Grip on Your Choking Arm?
If they have a 2-on-1 grip on your choking arm, bring your hands together and pull them toward you, along with their defending hands. It’s important to get the grips and hand placement right to create a sort of wrist lock situation where it hurts their wrist, forcing them to let go with the choking hand is palm down, the under hook hand is palm up, you can then proceed with the RNC.
Keep in mind to secure the back position: keep your head on the ground, lower than your opponent’s, maintain ear-to-ear contact, and keep chest to back.
Armbar from Mount
It’s very common for your opponent to defend the armbar by gripping their hands together. You can bring your arm inside the loop between their chest and their arm, with your hand touching the other side of your hip. Reach back with your other hand on the mat and slowly peel that arm away—it will be very tiring for them to hold on. Once you feel their grip weaken, peel their hands apart and go for the armbar, remembering to squeeze your legs together and secure the position.
You can pull their arm into your thigh for an armbar instead of pulling it into your groin, haha. It’s also more dynamic than trying to go for a straight armbar.
Taking the Back from Mount When Their Grip Defense Is Tight
Secure the kimura grip and lift your leg off their head—they should come up to escape the armbar. Maintain the kimura grip and bring their elbow to the mat, then post your foot on their hip. Use the momentum to rotate your body to their back, letting go of the kimura grip once you have secured the back.
