Start from the sit-up guard with your arms and legs close to you, making your inside space small. Don’t let your opponent get into headquarters. To take the back, begin with hand fighting: grab the elbow and the wrist, similar to an arm drag (but cupping the elbow, not the tricep). Lead them off the centerline, then take the back.If they start resisting the arm drag and their back is not open for taking, start building your base by planting one foot on the mat. Come up with your head and shoulder, pushing into them, with your near-side hand controlling the hip. The most important detail is having your far-side hand control their far-side ankle. That should be enough to take them down.
