While reading Fair Play, I ran into the acronym “RAT” stands for “Random Asignment of Task”, this is when a person randomly ask for an execution of a task without any clear instructions or goals, this could lead to confusion and failure to meet expectations.
Read the case of Marvel Legos in Fair Play p.236.
We want everybody to be a collaborator and take full responsibilties to uphold the common value, every tasks is scheduled and within the system so no tasks will come up unexpected, every action is understood with clear goals and explicitly defined to each person roles. Once the RATs are eliminated, nobody is caught off guard, needs reminding or is told to figure it out. Of course you will need help with execution from time to time but make sure that the instructions and expectations for said task is clearly communicated and understood.
“I’m sick of being constantly ordered around,” said one man.
“The only time she speaks to me is to nag me”offered another.
“My wife jokes that I need better ‘training.'”said a third. “Hey, I admit I’m not perfect, but I’m not a dog.”
After speaking one-on-one with countless men, the data was clear: Random Assignment of Tasks is one of the top reasons men resent their wives, admit to affairs, and express a desire to divorce.
