“You don’t have to turn this into something. It doesn’t have to upset you.” – Marcus Aurelius
Mental toughness is when your mental health and mood are not easily affected by the outside environment. You keep a cool head and don’t let your initial emotions overwhelm you or take your actions hostage. Having mental toughness is the key to a more peaceful and happier life.
I’ve learned a method from The Decision by Kevin Hart for protecting your inner peace: simply say, “That’s not going to hurt my feelings.” Understand your shortcomings and work on them. Respect others’ opinions and where they’re coming from, listen to constructive criticism, and don’t hold grudges. Imagine an invisible bubble shield surrounding you that protects your inner peace from negativity. Stay calm and let it pass through, knowing it won’t affect you and that you are in control of your emotions.
Understanding that you are unbothered by others’ thoughts and opinions is a confidence you can carry throughout your day. You focus on yourself, what you can do, and strive to be better every day.
