We practiced more on Ouchi Gari today, which can transition into a single-leg takedown. When you come into the Ouchi Gari position, you can switch your upper body grips to a double underhook and grip your own wrist, then commit to the Ouchi Gari knee hook. Connect chest to chest and fall forward with your opponent—it’s like a “suicide” takedown attempt.
Besides that, you can transition between Ouchi Gari, Osoto Gari, and Hiza Guruma, depending on how you feel where they are heavy on their leg. It’s important to move around and try to figure out, predicting how their legs are going to move. You can also keep in mind the snap-down, as well as the backtake, which are also available. Transitioning between Judo takedowns and wrestling takedowns like single-leg or double-leg also makes your game more unpredictable.
