Just go to the gym

Date posted: September 11, 2023

I just signed up to a new gym near my house. If you ever been to the gym or first started, you will be overwhelm with all the equipments, the layout of the gym and the variety of weights, fellow gym goers, all those can be a little bit intimidating. The same goes for me, even I have had some familiarity around weight lifting, I’ve been going to the gym on and off throughout my 20s but since the pandemic started 2 yrs ago, this is the 1st time I set my foot back in the gym.

Upon firing up my trusty workout app (I use “Fitness 22’s Workout tracker”), my plan for the 1st day back is just getting to know the new gym and its equipment, lifting some light weight (as in 2kg to 5kg weights) just to get the feel back .This is also an advice I would give to someone just started out or just go back to the gym. I understand that some people might feel motivated and just want to push as hard as they are physically capable. while this sounds great, the recovery would be a cruciating agony. All your muscle are sore, you hardly able to move your body for a couple of days, affecting your daily activities. This will leave you with a bad experience going to the gym.

The key to the gym or anything in life is consistency > intensity. Try to improve on one small thing everyday instead of going pedal to the metal the 1st few days just to rest for the next couple of weeks
