I binge-watched Squid Game S03 in one sitting

Date posted: July 6, 2025

Warning: Spoilers for the Squid Game Netflix series are ahead. Please consider watching the show before continuing to read.

I finally sat down and watched Squid Game Season 3, having followed the show since the highly acclaimed Season 1 to the climactic, cliff-hanging ending of Season 2. The overall quality of Season 3 is decent. I especially liked this season’s camera work, the music, and the tension between characters. My favorite episode this season is definitely the Hide and Seek game, where they killed so many beloved characters. One thing I thought could be improved is that the final game is no longer even a children’s game but rather a straightforward jigsaw puzzle where you have to vote on who to kill and eliminate from the game. I didn’t quite like the idea of Gi-hun sacrificing himself and leaving the baby at the edge of the platform, trusting that the Front Man or the organization will take care of her. Gi-hun’s leaving his daughter and now leaving another baby girl an orphan seems kind of sad and depressing.

The whole detective arc and the girl’s guard with Player 246 seem redundant, cluttered, and could be cut out of the show entirely. The show could have ended at Season 2. The VIPs are just as annoying and cringeworthy whenever they’re on-screen, ever since the start of the show. I understand that the show comments on the elites and rich people, but the way the characters portray them is not subtle and feels exaggerated.

Overall, Squid Game is okay. It has a lot of great moments, good character building, a unique concept, and great execution. I’d rate Squid Game a solid 7/10.
