Final Destination Bloodlines and Thunderbolts* – Quick Review

Date posted: July 10, 2025

Warning: This might contain a bit of spoilers.

I watched two movies today: the final Final Destination movie and Marvel’s Thunderbolts, which was later renamed “The New Avengers.” I liked the Final Destination movie—I would even say it’s my favorite from the franchise. They connected everything quite well, and for a horror movie with a simple premise, they managed to introduce plot twists and set up gory kills. They featured likable characters that I actually rooted for and was emotionally invested in, wondering how they could run away from death. The kills were also creative, and they had a fun way to subvert expectations, which served as comedic relief. I enjoyed it and would recommend it to a friend, especially if they’re into the franchise or the genre in general.

I couldn’t say the same about Thunderbolts, though. This is the movie I’ve seen a lot of praise for. I haven’t checked out much from Marvel since Endgame. I did see some reviews and a couple of Spider-Man movies, but aside from that, I haven’t explored their TV shows or other movies. The main protagonist characters in the movie don’t feel established to me—I don’t really care for them or their backstories. The ending was kind of… meh. I know they’re playing into mental illness as an issue, but the execution was kind of weak, or maybe I’ve just outgrown that kind of storytelling. This movie still suffers from a major problem that all Marvel movies have: forgettable villains who don’t stick around after one movie. The movie is forgettable, and you can skip it altogether, though some of the fighting choreography was nice. I don’t really like their cheesy dialogue, and everyone keeps making jokes or puns. The stakes are never really that intense since I already know the outcome—that the good guys will win anyway—and Marvel and Disney can’t commit to any death or loss. Meh movie.
