Category Archive, List & Board view – Blog Update

Date posted: May 21, 2025

For the Writing Archive Page, I wanted to create a way for users to switch between reading one post at a time (list view) and having the posts laid out as cards (board view). The latter definitely helps with user experience and allows them to scan through the content more quickly. However, I decided not to implement the switcher for shifting between the two layouts, as using the “Nestable Tabs” widget in Bricks Builder doesn’t work with pagination. If I were to do that now, I would have to figure out a way to apply it to all the Term Archive Templates as well.

Another workaround is to create two separate static pages for the Writing Archive Template—one for each view—and have the switchers as buttons, but that’s very hard to scale. Besides, having that switcher on the Writing Archive Page would lead visitors to expect it on the Reading and Watching Archive Pages as well.

I’ve put that feature on hold for now, set the “board view” as the default for the Writing Archive Page, and moved on to other tasks.

After organizing the blog posts into categories and assigning them to tags, I created their archive template, which is similar to the existing Writing Archive Template but includes an Archive Title and Description.

I also added a contact form to the Single Post Template so visitors can share their thoughts on what I’ve written. I’ll revisit it to adjust the copywriting for the success and error messages as well as setting up for the SMTP.

The progress is coming along nicely, and the blog is starting to come together. Next up is the search functionality with the Search Result Template.
