Today’s plan was a 60-minute recovery run. I put on my shoes and went outside, then came back shortly after because I forgot to put on my Garmin. I listened to the guided run called “Mindful Meters” by Coach Bennett and Andy Puddicombe, where they interviewed Miss English Gardner, an Olympian track star. She shared her stories of how she became a runner, how she followed her dreams, overcame hardship, and dealt with difficulties—very insightful episode. I listened to the entire interview and only played two songs in between: “Titanium” by David Guetta, Sia and “Pompeii” by Bastille.

Most people look at pro athletes and only see their performances, not the behind-the-scenes training or how they live their lives day by day. They have their own struggles with relationships and responsibilities. Miss English also shared how she was homeless on two separate occasions while still training and competing professionally. Having a support system of people like family, friends, and teammates who believe in you, go along with you on the journey, and understand your mindset can hold you up during hard times, remind you of who you are, and push you forward.
Everything worth doing takes time, effort, and sacrifice. You have to stay focused and free from distraction, taking one small step at a time.

“Athletes are just ordinary people doing the extraordinary.”
